Mitsubishi UFJ: Trump's tariff plan is key to U.S. dollar's prospects
According to online reports, analysts at Mitsubishi UFJ said in a report that Trump's trade policies will play a key role in the future performance of the US dollar. The dollar's recent reversal partly reflects rising investor optimism that Trump's trade plans may not cause the damage to the global economy as feared. However, uncertainty about trade policy may remain high for now. If Trump implements disruptive tariffs, the dollar could rebound strongly in the second quarter. This may also trigger increased volatility in the foreign exchange market. Conversely, if all Trump's tariff threats were significantly watered down and/or trade deals emerged, the dollar could see a larger correction.
