Apple Watch sales ban extended

Apple (AAPL) has recently been overtaken by Microsoft in terms of market capitalization, and is facing an antitrust lawsuit with epic game and an Apple Watch sales ban in North America.。

S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (C.A.F.C.) Apple has been asked to stop selling Series 9 and Ultra 2 smartwatches with blood oxygen in the United States.。The court refused to extend the suspension of the import ban imposed by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on the devices.。That means Apple must stop selling those specific smartwatch models during the appeal process, which is expected to last a year or more.。

The legal battle is a major challenge for Apple because the affected watches are a key part of its Wear, Home and Accessories division, which generated nearly $40 billion in revenue last year.。ITC previously ruled that Apple's latest watch infringed Masimo's patent on pulse oximetry technology。

Apple's possible coping strategies include selling a version of the watch with no controversial blood oxygen function。Last week, U.S. Customs and Border Protection approved a redesigned model that lacked this feature, causing Masimo's shares to rise 2.1%, seen as a victory for the integrity of the U.S. patent system。

The case is Apple v. ITC, Case 24-1285。The court has not reached a conclusion on the substance of the appeal, and the case adds scope to Apple's legal challenge, which also faces potential U.S. antitrust litigation.。
