ARM Plans To Capture Over 50% Windows PC Market
ARM's CEO, Rene Haas, has publicly announced that the company aims to capture more than 50% of the Windows PC market within five years.
Recently, Rene Haas, CEO of ARM, publicly announced that the company aims to occupy over 50% of the Windows PC market within five years.
The decision comes as Microsoft and its hardware partners launch new products based on ARM architecture. In May, Microsoft just announced the launch of a new AI PC product Copilot + PC, which greatly boosted the demand for ARM technology in the PC field while competing directly with technology giants such as Apple, Google and its parent company Alphabet.
Over the past few decades, Intel has been the leader of the PC chip industry, and with the continuous progress of various chip manufacturers (such as Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus Arm SoC, etc.), Intel has been eclipsed in several rounds of fierce competition.
It is reported that Microsoft is about to launch a "new generation of Windows on ARM" at its developer conference (Build 2024), if the ARM architecture processor can be promoted successfully, the market order of Windows PC is bound to reshuffle.
In the application of ARM architecture, Apple has become the "predecessor" of various hardware suppliers. It has been about 4 years since the introduction of the M series processor. With the support of ARM architecture, the chip has more efficient performance and longer service life.
In order to ensure the smooth landing of ARM-based chips, Microsoft has also deliberately created a set of special software development tools to support the seamless operation of the Windows operating system on ARM-based chips, thus replacing AMD, Intel x 86 and other architecture technologies.
Rene Haas said: "Sincerely, I believe that ARM's share of the Windows PC market is expected to exceed 50% within five years, and Microsoft is devoted in software updates."
He also revealed that Qualcomm has designed the first ARM architecture chip to launch ARM machines based on the Windows operating system to consumers and enterprises, and other manufacturers will follow suit. In addition, Microsoft is currently contracted with a number of manufacturers (Asus, Dell, etc.) to use ARM-based products to advance the market.
At the recent COMPUTEX 2024, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon affirmed ARM's "five-year plan" and revealed that some OEMs have even planned to produce 60% of Windows PC sales in the next three years.
"Judging from the history of the PC market, the emergence of a new version of Windows takes a long time to be widely adopted, but this time is different. Windwos' update to Copilot + makes Copilot's suite more comprehensive, ensuring faster Windows replacement。On the other hand, Qualcomm and ARM are going all out to try to bring Orion CPUs based on the ARM instruction set to the industry." Cristiano Amon said。
During the forum, Rene Haas also said that it is expected that by the end of 2025, there will be around 100 billion ARM devices ready to be put into AI applications worldwide. He stressed that ARM is ensuring that its equipment can adapt to rapidly iterating AI technology to meet the needs of future markets, and that ARM-based chips will also drive the development of global AI technology and industry.
