Microsoft CEO Declares "War" on MacBook! The Pressure Is Now on Apple
Copilot + PC outperforms Apple's MacBook Air with M3 chips by 58%.
On May 21st, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated in an interview that the performance of the Copilot+PC is 58% higher than that of the MacBook Air equipped with Apple's M3 chip. Microsoft hopes to reignite the long-standing competition with Apple's Mac through AI PCs.
Following the initial launch of the AI PC in March, on May 20th, Microsoft dropped another bombshell, announcing that its AI assistant, Copilot, will be fully integrated into the Windows operating system. Nadella said at the Microsoft event that Microsoft's new PCs will be "Copilot+PC," which are "the fastest and most AI-ready PCs ever."
Microsoft has named its upcoming "Copilot+PC" product Windows 11 AI PC, which will officially hit the market on June 18th. According to the introduction, Windows 11 AI PC is equipped with a new Neural Processing Unit (NPU) chip that can perform over 40 trillion operations per second, i.e., 40+TOPS, and offers long-lasting battery life. The first batch of Copilot+PCs will be equipped with Qualcomm's desktop processor Snapdragon X Elite chip and will come with the Microsoft Pluton Security processor enabled by default, and all (PCs) will be equipped with batteries that can last all day.
Microsoft also stated that the AI Copilot in Windows 11 and Bing is about to start using the GPT-4o model, which can answer questions and generate text with higher precision and accuracy, while also supporting voice and computer vision. For example, Copilot can be used to open applications or edit photos, and Copilot will also be displayed in the Windows 11 taskbar. In addition, with the addition of GPT-4o to Copilot, Microsoft also announced that the Surface Laptop and Surface Pro will join the new product line of Copilot Plus PCs. These personal computers will have a new feature called "Recall," which allows you to ask what you did a few days ago.
After Microsoft aimed at Apple, the pressure has come to Cook's side.
Originally, at next month's WWDC conference, if nothing unexpected happens, Apple will also showcase its new AI achievements. Reporters revealed that Apple has made a lot of efforts in the field of AI chip loading and is currently planning to place its high-end chips (such as M-series chips) in cloud computing servers to handle complex AI tasks. In the future, it will also launch AI servers based on the latest M4 chip, equipped with TSMC's 3nm process, which is expected to be mass-produced in the second half of 2025.
In addition, after cutting the Apple Car project, Apple has transferred most of its engineers to the AI team. Reports indicate that Apple spends several million dollars every day to upgrade Siri, determined to turn the "old man" Siri, which has been born for more than ten years, into its own AI flagship product. Moreover, Apple is also in negotiations and may also introduce Gemini to further strengthen Siri, but the agreement has not yet been finalized.
According to the well-known technology reporter Mark Gurman, Apple will release an improved Siri at the WWDC conference on June 10th. The new Siri will be more conversational and versatile, allowing Siri to evolve into a chat assistant, rather than being able to answer only one question at a time as it is now. Gurman also added that Apple's AI strategy will start with chatbots and will continue to spread to search engines and updates in software and hardware.
