OpenAI into Hollywood: to promote the film industry AI
From an industry perspective, OpenAI's entry into Hollywood will further promote innovation and competition in the AI field, which may cause some competitive pressure on other AI companies in the market, such as Meta, Google, etc.
OpenAI plans to create a wave in Hollywood. OpenAI will reportedly meet with film industry figures, including studios, media executives and talent agents, at a conference in Los Angeles next week aimed at building partnerships and incorporating its cutting-edge AI film generator into the filmmaking process.
This is the latest step in OpenAI's recent outreach efforts, according to people familiar with the matter. OpenAI launched preliminary talks in Hollywood in late February, led by Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcard. At the meeting, Lightkapp and other members demonstrated the ability of a new service called Sora to generate up to a minute-long video based on text prompts entered by users. In addition, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman attended some major events during the Academy Awards weekend.
Sora's debut immediately caught the attention of Hollywood and Silicon Valley, catching the eye of the audience. Although Sora is not currently open to the public, according to people familiar with the matter, OpenAI has given access to a small number of well-known actors and directors.
Despite the enormous potential of AI technology, the topic remains controversial in Hollywood. Many filmmakers and film companies are already using AI technology at various stages of production, but concerns have been raised about the impact this technology could have on jobs in the creative industries.
Last year, writers and actors went on strike to demand safeguards to ensure fair treatment when using AI technology. In addition, media companies are wary of OpenAI obtaining permission for its content without proper compensation, and are in discussions with some major media outlets.
OpenAI's move into Hollywood comes as competition in AI intensifies. Tech giant Meta Platforms Inc.and Alphabet Inc.Google has previously launched text-to-video research projects, including Runway AI Inc..A growing number of well-funded AI startups, including Pika and Stability AI, are also competing for market dominance.
Leading Runway AI Inc.Revealed that its Gen-2 text-to-video service is already widely used, reaching millions of users, including production and animation studio professionals. At the same time, film editors are using Runway's technology to create compelling visual content and seamlessly integrate it into existing films to enhance storytelling.
OpenAI clarified that Sora is currently in the research preview stage and the price details have yet to be determined.
