Trump "boasted" tariff revenue of $2 billion a day, customs data shows only $250 million

According to online reports, according to foreign media reports, data from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CPB) seem to contradict President Trump's remarks regarding the revenue generated by a series of recent tariffs. "Since April 5, CBP has collected more than $500 million under reciprocal tariffs, and total tariff revenue collected under 15 presidential trade actions since January 20 exceeds $21 billion," CPB said. A 10-hour glitch in the U.S. financial system prevented U.S. importers from entering a code that would have exempted them from higher tariffs on goods shipped by sea. "Even during the brief outage period, tariff revenue averaging $250 million per day remained uninterrupted," CBP said. However, Trump has repeatedly said that the United States earns $2 billion a day from tariffs.
