Harvard University: Federal lawsuit has been filed against Trump administration

Internet reports, according to the Wall Street Journal, Harvard University said it has filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump administration, alleging that it froze billions of dollars in federal funds, violated the university's constitutional rights and illegally endangered its academic independence. "The consequences of government overstepping their authority will be severe and lasting," Harvard President Alan Garber said in a community message announcing the lawsuit. Garber said research at risk from funding cuts includes childhood cancer, infectious disease outbreaks and research to reduce the suffering of soldiers injured in combat. Harvard argued in the lawsuit that the government's cut-off of funding was "part of a pressure campaign" to force Harvard to "submit to government control over its academic programs." The legal showdown between the most famous university in the United States and the president of the United States began. Trump has been waging an escalating campaign to restructure elite higher education.
