Putin proposed a ceasefire in the current frontline areas, stating for the first time or abandoning the highest requirement for military action

Online reports, according to the Financial Times, people familiar with the matter said that Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed to stop attacks on Ukraine on the current front line as part of efforts to reach a peace agreement with Trump. Three of the people familiar with the matter said Putin told Trump envoys earlier this month that Moscow could waive its claim to four partially occupied regions of Ukraine, which remain under Kiev's control. The United States has since proposed possible solutions, which include Washington recognizing Russia's ownership of the Crimean Peninsula and at least recognizing Russia's de facto control of parts of the four regions it currently controls. It was the first time since the conflict broke out three years ago that Putin officially said Russia might abandon its top demands for military action. But European officials warned that Putin could use the apparent concession as bait to induce Trump to accept other Russian demands and impose them on Ukraine as a fait accompli. "Kiev is currently under a lot of pressure to give up something so Trump can declare victory," one said.
