British Colombia court in Canada upholds limit on Bitcoin mining power
On March 14, the Court of Appeal of the Province of British Colombia in Canada upheld the provincial government's decision to restrict electricity consumption for Bitcoin mining operations and rejected an attempt by Bitcoin mining hosting service provider Conifex Timber to gain unlimited electricity consumption. The court upheld BC Hydro, emphasizing that it prioritizes the public interest to protect the province's electricity supply and prevent consumer electricity prices from rising. Concerns about the impact of cryptocurrency mining on energy consumption have led several Canadian provinces to impose restrictions on the industry.
