Panama's capital will accept cryptocurrency to pay taxes and municipal fees
Online reported that Panama City Mayor Mayer Mizrachi announced on April 15 that the Panamanian capital will accept cryptocurrency to pay taxes and municipal fees, including bus tickets and licenses, joining a growing number of jurisdictions around the world that have voted to accept such payments. Mizrachi announced on the X platform that once the payment track from cryptocurrency to legal tender is established, Panama City will begin accepting Bitcoin, Ethereum, Circle's USDC and Tether's USDT stablecoins as payment methods. Mizrachi said previous governments had tried to push for similar legislation but failed to break through rules requiring local governments to accept dollar-denominated funds.
