Apple strengthens Siri's conversation capabilities and resists ChatGPT and generative AI, which is expected to boost its stock price?
Goals and positioning of the new Siri
Apple is accelerating the development of a new voice assistant, internally called "LLM Siri", which uses Large Language Model (LLM) technology to provide natural and smooth conversation capabilities. The new version of Siri is designed to counter OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini, and improve the user experience with faster processing speed and precise functions. It is expected to be officially announced in 2025 and fully launched to the market in 2026.
Apple plans to integrate this technology into its latest AI platform, Apple Intelligence, and replace the existing Siri interface. The new version of Siri will enable more advanced functions, such as writing text, summarizing content, and deeper integration with third-party applications, bringing users a ChatGPT-like interactive experience.
Phased progress, privacy and precision parallel
Currently, the new version of Siri is being used as a test application for iPhone, iPad and Mac, and will be launched simultaneously with Apple's iOS 19 and macOS 16 (codenamed Luck and Cheer) in the future. To ensure user privacy, Apple will prioritize the use of its own AI model and reduce its reliance on third-party AI, while retaining the possibility of using external AI such as Gemini or ChatGPT as a supplement.
As a transitional measure, Siri in iOS 18 has introduced the original Apple LLM, which can select the existing Siri infrastructure or higher-level LLM system to process instructions based on the situation. The next generation of Siri will fully adopt the new LLM system to provide higher-level intelligent response and integration functions.
Past challenges and technological evolution
For years, Apple has been hoping to improve Siri's conversation capabilities, but has not been able to break through due to technical and structural issues. Starting in 2022, Apple will adjust its internal organization and transfer the Siri user interaction development team to the human-computer interface design department, led by Vice President Alan Dye. Recent job announcements also indicate that Apple is investing heavily in the development of dialogue AI, emphasizing reshaping computing methods and creating breakthrough technologies.
Although Apple's recently launched Apple Intelligence has attracted market attention, most of its functions are basic improvements, such as new interface design and the option of converting voice commands into text input. In contrast, the new Siri will be Apple's key attempt in the field of generative AI.
