BP activist investor Bluebell wants Chairman Helge Lund to exit - report

Oli Scarff/Getty Images News Activist investor Bluebell Capital Partners is calling for the ouster of BP (NYSE:BP) Chairman Heldge Lund due to the oil giant's performance. London-based Bluebell has written to the board twice in recent weeks criticizing the oil behemoth's management and approach, according to a report from the Mail on Sunday. The hedge fund also wants independent director Amanda Blanc, also chief executive of insurer Aviva, to step aside, according to the report. \"BP should immediately present an updated strategic plan,' Bluebell said, according to the report. \"Waiting until the publication of the 2024 full-year results is a waste of time and creates the false impression that this update is business as usual.\" BP has met activist Bluebell twice, with one meeting attended by Lund, the Mail on Sunday wrote. \"From our extensive and active engagement with our shareholders, there is no meaningful support for Bluebell's position,\" BP's spokeswoman told the publication. In January, The Financial Times reported that Bluebell was calling for BP (BP) to dump its commitment to cut oil and gas production, saying the company's shift away from fossil fuels was misguided and weighing on its stock price. Bluebell wrote to BP (BP) Chair Lund in October 2023 that the company's pledge to reduce oil and gas output by 25% by 2030 from 2019 levels means it is destroying shareholder value by moving away from hydrocarbons faster than society. BP is set to report Q3 results on Oct. 29.
