Tesla Cybertruck deliveries reportedly halted and worker shifts will be shortened

Recently, Tesla has several bad news.

Since last week, users have posted on a forum dedicated to the Tesla Cybertruck that their upcoming delivery of the Cybertruck has been delayed or cancelled.

On April 14th, a netizen posted on X stating that "Tesla has stopped all Cybertruck deliveries for 7 days due to accelerator pedal issues," and claimed that this was not a joke.

Meanwhile, an internal Tesla memo shows that Tesla has told employees working on Cybertruck production at its Austin, Texas, superplant that shifts on the production line will be shortened.

Previously, the workers at the Austin Superfactory implemented a 12 hour shift system, with one shift from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the other shift from 6 p.m to 6 a.m. the next day. The memo states that workers will implement a shift system of 11 hours the day and 10.5 hour shifts at night, with one shift from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the other shift from 6 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. the next day. The new shift schedule will take effect from this Monday.

It's unclear whether Tesla plans to implement the new timeline at other production lines or other plants. But according to media interviews, some workers at other Tesla plants in Sparks, Nevada, and Fremont, California, said they were not notified and continued to work in their original 12-hour shifts.

Nowadays, the most difficult to produce Cybertruck is undertaken by the Austin Super Factory. This shift adjustment is an important sign of slowing Cybertruck sales.

It is currently unclear how many Cyber trucks Tesla has delivered so far.

At the launch of Cyber truck, Musk stated that Tesla's goal is to produce 250,000 Cyber trucks annually by 2025. Previously, during Tesla's January earnings conference call, CEO Elon Musk stated that the Cyber truck for 2024 was almost sold out. Musk said at the time, "This is a situation of production restrictions, not demand restrictions."

In addition to making the Cybertruck, Tesla's Austin superplant is also making the Model Y. The plant is also responsible for the development of Tesla's next generation of low-cost vehicles (known as Model 2).

It is worth noting that at the time of the shift schedule adjustment at the Austin Superfactory, there are also rumors of imminent layoffs circulating within the factory. The report states that factories with rumors of layoffs include Austin Super Factory and Fremont Factory.

An engineer from a factory admitted in an interview that there were indeed some rumors and gossip within the factory, which also made some people very worried. "But you also know how fast false rumors spread in such a big company," he added.

Although seemingly bad news has been circulating, Tesla has not only had bad news recently.

On April 6th, Musk announced on X that Tesla's Robotaxi will make its debut on August 8th. This is good news for Tesla, which has been in a haze recently.

On April 12th, Tesla also announced that the subscription price for fully autonomous driving (FSD) in the United States would be lowered from $199 per month to $99. Wall Street estimates that currently, approximately 400,000 Tesla owners in the United States use FSD, and there are approximately 2.5 million Tesla cars on American roads. Lowering subscription prices will contribute to the popularization of Tesla FSD.

The upcoming Robotaxi and Tesla's push for widespread FSD are two signs that the company is getting better. With the slowing global demand for electric vehicles and increasingly fierce competition, autonomous driving technology will be Tesla's next battleground, and Tesla's focus seems to be increasingly tilted towards this area.
