Apple resumes talks with OpenAI to develop AI features for iPhone
Apple has resumed discussions with OpenAI about adding OpenAI's AI technology to the iPhone.
According to reports, Apple has resumed negotiations with OpenAI, intending to leverage the startup's generative artificial intelligence technology to support certain new iPhone features set to be launched later this year. The two companies have begun negotiations on the parameters of a potential agreement and how OpenAI's technology will be integrated into Apple's upcoming iPhone operating system, iOS 18.
Last month, Apple was in discussions regarding licensing Google's "Gemini" chatbot for new iPhone features, but had not yet decided which partners to collaborate with, potentially reaching agreements with OpenAI and Alphabet's Google, or opting for completely different suppliers.
Compared to competitors like Microsoft and Google, Apple has been slower to introduce generative artificial intelligence, which can generate human-like responses to text commands and incorporate them into its products.
Apple CEO Tim Cook stated in February that the company is heavily investing in the field of generative artificial intelligence and will share more details later this year about its plans to implement this technology.
