Apple urgently recruit engineers to develop App, Android version of Apple TV + is coming?
In recent job postings, Apple has expressed its desire to find someone who can lead the development of "interesting new features" and "help develop an application for millions of people to watch and discover TV and sports programs.".
According to reports, Apple is seeking senior engineers to help develop a TV and sports application for Android, indicating that the company is finally preparing to introduce its TV+service into Android phones and tablets.
In recent job postings, Apple has expressed its desire to find someone who can lead the development of "interesting new features" and "help develop an application for millions of people to watch and discover TV and sports programs."
This indicates that the company is seeking to attract more users in order to gain a foothold in the streaming market. Apple rarely develops software for Google's Android because Android is a strong competitor to Apple's iOS.
Apple TV+was launched in 2019 as a response to Netflix Launched by streaming media such as Disney+. Apple has invested heavily in creating original content in its TV+services. At the 2022 Academy Awards, CODA won the Best Picture award, which was distributed by Apple TV+.
The Apple TV+application has many features, in addition to original movie content, there are also some other Apple TV channels, as well as a store for purchasing and renting movies and programs. The latter is where Apple provides sports product services, such as live streaming programs Friday Night Baseball and football streaming services MLS Season Pass.
Like other streaming peers, Apple has been gradually increasing the price of its TV+services in recent years. Last year, the company raised the price to $9.99 per month, which is twice the price when TV+was launched five years ago. However, Apple has not disclosed how many subscribers or how much revenue the service has generated.
For a long time, Apple has been committed to promoting Apple TV+to as many platforms as possible, and has provided intelligent TV Roku、 Amazon streaming devices and game consoles offer Apple TV+applications, but no Android version of the application has been released yet.
Currently, Apple dominates the high-end smartphone market, but Android has more users worldwide. It is understood that, The Android system has provided support for over 3 billion devices worldwide. By contrast, Apple has approximately 2.2 billion active devices, most of which are iPhones.
Although Apple provides music streaming services on Android, it refuses to release applications such as FaceTime and iMessage on the operating system. Internally, the company is concerned that introducing popular features such as iMessage into Android could threaten iPhone sales. Although Apple released a network version of FaceTime a few years ago, it still insists on not creating a dedicated Android application.
However, Apple TV+is not unfamiliar to Android users. Apple has already provided this service on Google's Chromecast streaming devices and many smart TVs. But if Android smartphone users want to watch Apple TV+programs, they can only use the network experience on tv.apple.com. But generally speaking, native applications are more attractive to users and can support offline downloads and other functions.
Creating an Android version of the Apple TV+application is the latest sign that Apple's attitude may be changing. Earlier this year, the company launched a standalone version of music, television, and device management applications for Windows. The latest job postings indicate that the company may be contemplating a bigger plan as Apple tells applicants they will "design and build a complex application."
Perhaps Apple is realizing that its revenue growth now relies more on services than just devices.
