ASIC bans former van Eyk director from stepping into financial services industry

ASIC has permanently banned former CEO Mark Peter Thomas from performing any function involving the operation of a financial services business or credit provider.。

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) permanently prohibits former Chief Executive Officer Mark Peter Thomas from performing any function related to the operation of a financial services business or credit provider, or controlling, either alone or with others, an entity that operates a financial services business or provides credit.。

Mr Thomas was convicted of abusing his directorship and engaging in wrongdoing at Blueprint Investment Management Limited, a research subsidiary of his New Zealand van Eyk。

Mr Thomas was sentenced to one year and three months' imprisonment by way of an enhanced disciplinary order for abusing his directorship to seek, directly or indirectly, his own advantage。The verdict also said Mr Thomas was required to complete 250 hours of community service.。

Under the Companies Act, ASIC may permanently ban a person from the financial services industry and the credit industry if they are convicted of serious fraud or dishonesty.。

Mr. Thomas has the right to appeal to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal for a review of ASIC's decision。

Thomas was sentenced at the New South Wales Magistrates Court on 14 November 2022 after admitting breach of directorship.。
