Biden says will continue to run for re-election
Despite the recent poor performance of US President Biden in the debate, which sparked a wave of withdrawal, he firmly stated on Wednesday (July 3) that he will continue to run for re-election when participating in the Democratic National Committee event.
81 year old Biden stuttered multiple times during last week's debate with Trump, which led to many voices questioning his age and abilities, and also caused some supporters to worry that he would not be able to hold the presidency. However, Biden emphasized that he still intends to run and reiterated his determination to stand up again after being knocked down.
In addition, on Wednesday night, Biden met with 24 Democratic governors and the Mayor of Washington D.C. both online and offline, promising them that he would still be able to serve as the Democratic flag bearer even if he performed poorly in the debate.
Only three governors (governors of New York, Minnesota, and Maryland) met with reporters after the debate and promised to continue supporting Biden and standing with him after a candid discussion about Biden's poor performance in last week's debate.
Opposition within the party intensifies
According to media reports, during a conference call with House Democrats on Wednesday, Ra ú l Grijalva of Arizona called on Biden to withdraw from the race, while Massachusetts Congressman Seth Moulton pointed out that Biden's age is a burden.
Texas Democratic Representative Lloyd Doggett also called on Biden to withdraw from the election and stated that if Biden's future performance is unstable, 25 Democratic Representatives will demand that he abandon re-election.
