IOSCO Council Elects Jean-Paul Servais to Re-elect Chairman
Jean-Paul Servais is also chairman of the Belgian Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA).
The Board of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) announced that Jean-Paul Servais has been re-elected as Chairman for a two-year term. Jean-Paul Servais also serves as the Chairman of the IOSCO European Regional Committee (ERC) and as the Chairman of the Financial Services and Markets Authority of Belgium.
Shigeru Ariizumi, Vice Minister for International Affairs at the Japan Financial Services Agency, and Rostin Behnam, Chairman of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, have also been re-elected as Vice-Chairs of the IOSCO Board.
Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, Chairman of the Egyptian Financial Regulatory Authority, has been re-elected as the Chairman of the Growth and Emerging Markets Committee (GEM) and continues to serve as Vice-Chair of the IOSCO Board.
Their terms began on May 27th, and the first meeting will be held at the 2024 IOSCO Annual Conference in Athens, Greece.
Jean-Paul Servais, upon his re-election, stated:
"When I was first elected, I emphasized the importance of accelerating priorities such as sustainable disclosure and the crypto asset market, and IOSCO has achieved its objectives. In my second term, we need to continue working hard, focusing on implementing our newly established standards. Given the increasing role of financial markets, IOSCO's work as a global standard setter is more relevant than ever, as reflected in our recently updated workplan. Therefore, I am honored to once again serve as Chairman of the IOSCO Board and feel privileged to have been re-elected as Chairman."
The four IOSCO Regional Committees have also elected their Chairs:
- Africa/Middle East Regional Committee (AMERC): Ms. Nezha Hayat, Chairperson and CEO of the Moroccan Capital Market Authority.
- Asia-Pacific Regional Committee (APRC): Ms. Ashley Alder, CEO of the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong.
- Inter-American Regional Committee (IARC): Ms. Lucia Buenrostro, Deputy Chief for Regulatory Policy at the National Banking and Securities Commission of Mexico.
- European Regional Committee (ERC): Mr. Jean-Paul Servais.
- IOSCO Affiliate Members Consultative Committee (AMCC): Mr. Andrew Kriegler, President and CEO of the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada.
The IOSCO Board consists of 35 members and two observers.
