Meta Partners with Hollywood to Test AI Film Tool Movie Gen

Meta has partnered with Hollywood production company Blumhouse Productions to test its latest generative AI film tool, Movie Gen.

Metaannounced that it has partnered with Blumhouse Productions, a well-known Hollywood production company, to test its latest generative AI film tool Movie Gen. This tool can generate realistic film and audio content based on user instructions, competing with other leading media generation platforms such as OpenAI and ElevenLabs.

Blumhouse has specially selected some well-known creators to participate, including director Aneesh Chaganty, The Spurlock Sisters and actor Casey Affleck, to use Movie Gen to make short films.

Meta said that Chaganty's work will be the first to premiere on the Movie Gen website, and other creators' films will be released in succession.

Blumhouse Vision and Meta's Technical Cooperation

Jason Blum, CEO of Blumhouse Productions, emphasized that creative talents have always been the core of the film and television industry, and innovative technology can be a powerful tool for their narrative. The cooperation between Blumhouse and Meta aims to involve creators in the early stages of technology development so that they can provide feedback on the pros and cons of Movie Gen. This close cooperation model not only helps to improve the practicality of the tool, but also ensures that it is more in line with the actual needs of film production.

Through this collaboration, Meta demonstrates its vision of developing AI tools with the creative industry, especially when addressing industry concerns about copyright and licensing issues regarding AI technology. In recent years, many film and music creators have expressed concerns that AI tools may infringe copyright, and Meta's cooperation strategy is seen as a key step in alleviating these disputes.

Copyright disputes and Meta's response strategy

Tech giants such as Meta are currently facing legal action from copyright holders, accusing them of using creative content to train AI systems without authorization. Meta said that the training process of its AI system follows the principle of "fair use". However, Meta has also shown a flexible attitude and is willing to pay for content licensing in some cases.

This collaboration with Blumhouse shows that Meta is not only at the forefront of technological innovation, but is also actively looking for models to cooperate with content creators to ensure legal compliance while promoting the application of AI technology in the creative field.

In addition to the collaboration with Blumhouse, Meta has also collaborated with several well-known actors such as Judi Dench, Kristen Bell and John Cena, using their voices as material for Meta AI chatbots. Such cooperation is also intended to reduce copyright disputes and provide more possibilities for the legal application of AI technology.

Application prospects of generative AI technology in the film and television industry

Meta's move has focused the market's attention on the potential application of generative AI technology in the film and television industry. With the support of Microsoft , OpenAI has actively held talks with Hollywood executives and agents to explore cooperation opportunities for its film generation tool Sora. Although no specific cooperation projects have been implemented yet, this shows the new opportunities brought by AI generation technology in the field of film and television content production.

In addition, Lions Gate Entertainment also reached a cooperation agreement with AI startup Runway in September 2024 to explore the application of AI technology in content creation. This shows that more and more film and television production companies are beginning to pay attention to the important role of generative AI technology in future content creation.
