According to two sources, OpenAI plans to launch its AI powered search tool next Monday, which will enhance its competitiveness with search giant Google.
According to reports, OpenAI, supported by Microsoft, is developing a search engine that may compete with Google and an artificial intelligence search company called Perplexity.
The news of OpenAI may be released one day before Google's annual I/O conference, which will start on Tuesday and is expected to involve a large number of projects related to artificial intelligence.
The report states that OpenAI's search tool will be an extension of its popular product ChatGPT, allowing ChatGPT to directly extract content from the internet and include citations.
Although ChatGPT faces difficulties in providing reliable and real-time network information, industry analysts have long regarded it as an alternative to obtaining online information. OpenAI previously integrated it with Microsoft's Bing for advanced subscription users to use. At the same time, Google has also added generative AI functionality to its search engine.
A startup company called Perplexity founded by former OpenAI researchers has gained popularity by providing an AI localized search experience, displaying citations, visual content, and text replies in search results. According to the blog post of the startup company in January, it has 10 million monthly active users.
After the launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT product at the end of 2022, it was the fastest application to receive 100 million monthly active users. However, according to data from the analysis company Similarweb, the global traffic of ChatGPT website has been fluctuating over the past year and has only now recovered to its peak in May 2023. This artificial intelligence startup is facing pressure to expand its user base.
OpenAI previously attempted to incorporate updated real-world information into ChatGPT, known as the ChatGPT plugin, but according to the help center on the OpenAI website, the attempt was abandoned in April.
