As one of the world's largest chipmakers, Ultra Micro (AMD) is still doing business with its main Chinese customers, even though its competitors have tried to prevent it from selling chips worth hundreds of millions of dollars.。

Supermicro is trying to prevent Intel (INTC) from selling advanced chips to Shenzhen-based Huawei and believes Intel's license is unfair because it does not have a similar license, joined by others who are skeptical about its business relationship with Huawei.。

In September 2020, the administration of former U.S. President Donald Trump issued licenses to Intel; in 2023, Huawei, along with 275 other Chinese companies, was placed on a trade blacklist, and under special licenses, U.S. companies were prohibited from selling products to the companies on the list.。

In early 2021, Supermicro applied for a license to sell similar advanced chips to Huawei, but did not receive a response from the Biden administration.。Intel's license is expected to expire later this year and is unlikely to be renewed, sources said.。

Canalys analyst Emma Xu said: "Most of the CPU (central processing unit) used in Huawei laptops still comes from Intel, so any further restrictions on it will be quite challenging for Huawei's laptop products.。"

As of press time, neither Supermicro nor Huawei had responded to requests for comment, while Intel declined to comment.。Recently, Microsoft said it was working with Intel to develop artificial intelligence models with its 18A chip manufacturing technology.。
