US prepares AI security council to strengthen critical infrastructure security
The U.S. government is considering setting up an AI safety council, inviting a host of tech industry leaders to strengthen the security of the nation's critical infrastructure.
The US government is considering establishing an Artificial Intelligence Security Commission, which will invite technology industry leaders such as OpenAI founder Altman, NVIDIA (NVDA) CEO Huang Renxun, Microsoft (MSFT) CEO Nadella, and Alphabet CEO Pichai. The commission will focus on enhancing the security of national critical infrastructure.
Working in collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security, the commission will develop standards for the safe application of artificial intelligence to protect the economy and public safety from threats posed by AI technology. This initiative reflects the government's awareness of the need for regulation in the rapidly growing artificial intelligence industry.
US officials state that the commission will closely cooperate with the Department of Homeland Security to develop recommendations for the safe use of AI tailored to industries such as grid operators, transportation service providers, and manufacturing plants. These guidelines will help ensure the security and stability of systems when employing AI technology.
In October 2023, President Biden signed an executive order establishing new standards for AI security, requiring developers of AI systems to share security test results and other critical information with the government to enhance national security and infrastructure protection.
The government's proactive intervention reflects a response to and adjustment for the rapid development of the AI industry. By leveraging the expertise and resources of tech giants, it not only enhances the security of critical infrastructure but also sets higher standards for the healthy development and application of AI technology.
