U.S. Department of Justice: A crypto godfather colluded with police officers to try to steal $100 million in cryptocurrency

Internet reports that according to an official announcement from the U.S. Department of Justice, Los Angeles police recently cracked a major cryptocurrency theft case. Adam Iza, a man who calls himself the "godfather of encryption", colluded with Eric Chase Saavedra, a Los Angeles County Police Deputy Sheriff. The two committed crimes against multiple victims through intimidation, extortion, and illegally obtaining search warrants. Saavedra used his identity as a police officer to improperly obtain a court-authorized search warrant. The pair obtained a search warrant or GPS location related to a laptop they believed contained more than $100 million in cryptocurrency. But the plan failed after the victims fired on them. Currently, both men have pleaded guilty. Adam Iza faces a maximum of 35 years in federal prison for conspiracy to violate civil rights, wire fraud and tax evasion, and Eric Chase Saavedra faces a maximum of 13 years in prison for conspiracy to violate civil rights and file false tax returns.
