The European Central Bank expects digital euros to replace up to 256 billion euros in banknotes
Internet reports that the digital euro project is about to be launched, and the European Central Bank (ECB) is analyzing its potential impact on the use of currencies in the euro zone. A recent report showed that digital euros could replace 5 euros of physical notes in every 10 euros and 3 euros of bank deposits in every 10 euros. The European Central Bank estimates that, depending on the adoption rate, up to 256 billion euros of banknotes can be replaced. However, given that more than 1.56 trillion euros of banknotes are currently in circulation, their use is likely to remain small. As Europe pushes the digital euro against the dollar stablecoin, ECB Board member Piero Cipollone has emphasized its need.
