Despite warnings from U.S. industry officials about high costs, Vietnam is in talks with chip companies with the aim of boosting investment in the country and possibly building its first chip manufacturing plant, according to media reports.。Vietnam, which already has Intel's largest semiconductor packaging and testing plant in the world, is working on a strategy to attract more semiconductor investment, including from foundries focused on making chips.。The head of the Vietnam office of the US-ASEAN Business Council revealed that it had held meetings with six US chip companies in recent weeks, including meetings with fab operators.。But reveal specific company names as talks are still in preliminary stages。One chip executive, who declined to be named, said the talks with potential investors involved U.S. semiconductor foundry manufacturers GlobalFoundries and LIC.。
