The Australian dollar rose to a new seven-week high against the Swiss franc on Tuesday after the Reserve Bank of Australia strengthened its bets that a rate cut could still take time。
Minutes from the RBA's February policy meeting showed the central bank needed more time to be convinced inflation was easing before it could rule out another rate hike.。
RBA policymakers considered another 25 basis point rate hike but decided to keep borrowing costs stable as progress had been made on the inflation front, minutes of the meeting showed.。
However, policymakers "noted that it will be some time before they have enough confidence that inflation will return to its target level within a reasonable time frame."。
The RBA board expects inflation to return to the 2-3 per cent target range by the end of 2025 and decelerate further to the midpoint of the range in 2026。
