General manager of AION: layoffs rumors distort the facts and expect to recruit more than 2,000 people in the future

GAC Aion layoffs of fresh graduates have been raging in the past few days.

On June 13, GAC Aion held a brand communication meeting. At the meeting, Gu Huinan, General Manager of GAC Aion, responded to the recent layoffs of fresh graduates.

Gu Huinan stated that over 100 fresh graduates are currently undergoing training for employment. A few individuals were adjusted due to unsuitability for their positions and will be compensated according to the agreement. He also emphasized that GAC Aion will take various measures to improve efficiency and reduce costs, such as upgrading equipment and enhancing digitalization, as efficiency is key to development.

Regarding the layoff rumors online, Gu Huinan asserted that the external layoff rumors are distortions of the facts. In the second half of the year, GAC Aion plans to expand its stores significantly, with plans to open 100 new direct-sale stores and several factories, expecting to recruit over 2,000 people.

The layoff incident involving fresh graduates at GAC Aion has been widely discussed in recent days.

The incident originated from an online image on June 12. In a screenshot of an email, a sender from the Human Resources Department of GAC Aion informed the whistleblower that "due to adjustments in the company's recruitment policy for fresh graduates, it is necessary to terminate the tripartite/bilateral agreements signed. The company will pay a breach penalty of 5,000 yuan to the fresh graduates as agreed, expected to be completed by June 21."

After the screenshot was released, some media outlets verified the situation with GAC Aion's Human Resources Department, and the situation was confirmed. There were also reports that all departments of GAC Aion would lay off 20% of their staff, focusing on the manufacturing sector. Subsequently, terms like "GAC Aion laying off fresh graduates" and "GAC Aion mass layoffs" began to spread online.

In response, GAC Aion explained that the situation has two aspects. Regarding the layoff rumors of fresh graduates, the situation is largely true. This year, a total of 118 graduates were hired, with only a single-digit number of fresh graduates being adjusted, and they will be compensated according to the agreement. As for the layoff rumors, Aion completely denied them, calling them "malicious slander and defamation."

Aion also stated that the company is currently operating well and will successively launch multiple brands this year, including a series of new products under the Aion and Hyper brands. Additionally, Aion's factories in Thailand and Changsha are expected to be completed and put into production in July. Facing global expansion, GAC Aion still has a large demand for talent on major recruitment websites.

On the evening of June 12, GAC Aion issued an official statement: "Recently, some false information and malicious rumors about GAC Aion's 'layoffs' and 'intensive termination of agreements with fresh graduates' have appeared on online platforms, causing market misinterpretation and affecting the company's reputation. To protect the company's legitimate rights and interests, on June 12, 2024, we have officially reported to the public security authorities and will pursue legal responsibility for the rumor-mongers according to the law."

However, according to media reports, some employees at GAC Aion have indeed begun to see a reduction in subsidies. Multiple employees stated that this mainly involves the cancellation of overtime subsidies. Due to the high proportion of overtime subsidies in their salary structure, employees' take-home pay has decreased by at least 10% compared to before. It is not yet known whether other subsidies will be canceled in the future.

Aion has not yet responded to the "subsidy reduction" issue.
