Monthly fee up to $20! Apple users still spend on AI?

Since Apple first launched its artificial intelligence system product Apple Intelligence in June this year, this important product has attracted widespread attention.
Recently, Counterpoint's Apple analyst said that Apple may charge up to $20 per month for the advanced features of Apple Intelligence.
In June this year, Apple announced plans to launch Apple Intelligence on some devices later this year. The AI system will reportedly include an enhanced version of the Siri voice assistant, as well as the ability to automatically generate emails and images.
Although the new system is highly anticipated, analysts estimate that the launch of these features may be slow and may not be available in regions such as China and Europe in the early stages.
At present, Apple may have considered implementing a charging plan for Apple Intelligence. Neil Shah, partner at Counterpoint Research, said that artificial intelligence investments are expensive and Apple may want to pass these costs on to users.
Currently, Apple's Apple One service package (including Apple Music, Apple TV Plus, Apple Arcade, Apple News Plus and iCloud, etc.) costs $19.95 per month. Shah said that Apple may charge $10 to $20 for more advanced features of Apple Intelligence and integrate them into the Apple One service package.
Compared with other hardware companies, Apple has a unique advantage - users are more willing to pay for its software services.
In the second quarter of this year, Apple's service division revenue reached $24.2 billion, while many other hardware companies have difficulty making profits in software services.
Ben Wood, research director of CCS Insight, said: Apple is one of the few connected device companies that has successfully made profits from value-added services. Therefore, it has set a precedent among users that they must pay for more advanced services. On this basis, Apple may choose to charge for more advanced features in its Apple Intelligence.
In fact, it is not uncommon for technology companies to charge for their AI products. For example, OpenAI charges a subscription fee for its more advanced ChatGPT features, and Microsoft charges for its AI Copilot tool.
Apple's main competitor Samsung has begun to launch an artificial intelligence service called Galaxy AI. The head of the company's mobile business revealed last month that Samsung is still considering its software revenue model.
Shah also mentioned that the AI system will enable Apple to further lock in its already loyal user base, because Apple Intelligence can be more personalized based on user behavior, further deepening the dependence of Apple users on its products.
