Musk Shows Support for Trump With His Monthly $45m on Super PAC

Last Saturday, July 13, Donald Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt, which helped garner him a wave of sympathy votes, including from Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

On Monday, at the Republican National Convention, Trump secured enough delegate votes to officially be nominated as the Republican candidate for the 2024 U.S. presidential election. Trump also announced on the same day his selection of Ohio Senator James Vance as his running mate.

Reportedly, Musk has indicated plans to donate approximately $45 million per month to a Super Political Action Committee (PAC) supporting Trump's presidential campaign. Financial filings submitted to the Federal Election Commission on Monday evening revealed that as of the end of June, Musk had not yet made any contributions to an organization named American PAC.

It remains unclear whether Musk made donations to the organization in July.

American PAC was founded in June and focuses primarily on voter registration, persuading early voting, and applying for mail-in ballots in swing states. The filings show the committee also received contributions from other prominent entrepreneurs, including $1 million from Joe Lonsdale, co-founder of Palantir Technologies, and $250,000 each from cryptocurrency billionaires Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss.

According to the filings with the Federal Election Commission, American PAC raised $8.8 million and spent $7.8 million from its inception through the end of June, leaving it with less than $1 million in cash on hand.
