Nvidia, blowing the wind of artificial intelligence to India

Do you dare to imagine an AI chip with curry flavor?

On October 22, Indian Information and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that India was in preliminary discussions with Nvidia on developing AI chips, but did not give specific details.

There is also news that Nvidia CEO Huang Renxun, who is attending the Artificial Intelligence Summit in India, is seeking to establish partnerships with India's largest companies, including Reliance Industries Ltd. and Infosys Ltd.Nvidia builds AI infrastructure projects for these companies to help them provide products and services embedded in AI technology to improve economic efficiency.

Considering that there is much room for improvement in AI infrastructure in India, actively exploring the Indian market is still a blue ocean for Nvidia.

In Nvidia's vision, AI technology can greatly help local industries upgrade. For example, Nvidia said it can help India's Tech Mahindra Ltd. build a large-scale Hindi language model; it can help e-commerce company Flipkart collaborate on developing a conversational customer service system; and even it will work with Indian health care companies to help them improve the efficiency of patient care and medical research.

Earlier, when Huang Renxun met with Indian Prime Minister Modi, he also proposed that Nvidia hopes to use India's huge chip design talent pool to jointly develop AI chips customized for use cases in the Indian market. The design tasks undertaken by Indian government and civilian agencies account for about 10% to 20% of the total development tasks. This work is advancing quickly, and it is said that the Indian government is currently finalizing the costs, benefits, use cases and other details of joint research and development.

For India, they will welcome Nvidia with AI gifts to India.Because in India's official narrative, they are very keen on developing the semiconductor manufacturing industry and the chip industry.

Currently, New Delhi has launched a program called the "AI mission", which makes developing infrastructure for the artificial intelligence industry a priority. They have even deployed computing power support and are planning to build a supercomputer with 10,000 GPUs, and hope that the service provider that provides GPU leasing will provide funding.Considering the high cost of building a computing power center, we have reason to believe in India's expectations for the project.

Why is Nvidia targeting India at this time?In addition to the vast market resources, a strong talent base is another factor to consider. What many people don't know is that Nvidia started operating in Bangalore, known as the "Silicon Valley of India," 20 years ago, and has development centers in three other cities in India. As of now, Nvidia has approximately 4,000 engineers in India.India is Nvidia's largest employee base after the United States.

About a year ago, Nvidia reached agreements with local Indian companies Reliance Group and Tata Group to build artificial intelligence data centers.Reliance Group said in a live broadcast of its shareholders 'meeting in August that the company is building a series of artificial intelligence tools and applications called JioBrain. At the meeting, Reliance Group's enthusiasm was evident. The company mentioned the word "artificial intelligence" 80 times.

There is also news that in order to develop artificial intelligence in China. The Indian government has reserved an artificial intelligence infrastructure budget of up to US$1.2 billion for AI mission to build data centers in the future.Last month, when Huang Renxun met with Indian Prime Minister Modi in the United States, he said that the moment that belongs to India is coming.
