Tajinder Singh assumes office as IOSCO Secretary General
Tajinder Singh has been a member of IOSCO since 2010 as Deputy Secretary General.
The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) has announced that its Senior Deputy Secretary-General, Tajinder Singh, has been appointed Acting Secretary-General, effective today, succeeding Martin Moloney, who has found another position outside IOSCO.
Tajinder Singh has been with IOSCO since 2010, consistently demonstrating outstanding leadership capabilities. IOSCO stated that due to his deep understanding of IOSCO's objectives and extensive knowledge and experience in international standard-setting, Tajinder is best suited to lead the Secretariat and ensure continuity.
Martin Moloney served during a period of significant achievements for IOSCO, during which it gained considerable influence as an international standard-setter. His understanding of the markets and asset management industry has been an asset to IOSCO.
IOSCO is the leading international policy forum for securities regulators and the global standard-setter for financial market regulation. It develops, implements, and promotes internationally recognized standards for financial market regulation and closely collaborates with other international organizations to advance the global regulatory reform agenda.
Its members oversee more than 95% of the world's securities markets in approximately 130 jurisdictions. By providing high-quality technical assistance, education, and training, IOSCO supports its members in collectively achieving the following three objectives:
- Enhancing investor protection.
- Ensuring fair and efficient markets.
- Promoting financial stability by reducing systemic risks.
The IOSCO Board is the body responsible for the governance and standard-setting of IOSCO, composed of 35 securities regulators. Jean-Paul Servais, Chairman of the Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) of Belgium, serves as the Chair of the IOSCO Board.
