Tesla Beats BYD to Reclaim Global Quarterly Sales of Pure Electricity
For most of last year, Tesla held the top-of-the-list record, but was overtaken by BYD in the fourth quarter.
On April 3, the latest data showed that Tesla re-surpassed BYD in quarterly sales in the first quarter of 2024, returning to the top of the global sales list for pure electricity.
For most of last year, Tesla held the top-of-the-list record, but was overtaken by BYD in the fourth quarter.
BYD: Delivered 300,114 units of pure electricity in the first quarter due to the slowdown in the global tram market
BYD, for its part, delivered about 300,114 pure electric vehicles (BEV) throughout the first quarter, down 43% from its record delivery high of 526,409 in the fourth quarter of last year, and still up 36% year-on-year.BYD's delivery decline was mainly affected by a slight slowdown in the global electric vehicle market in 2024。
However, in terms of overall product sales, BYD is still far ahead. After updating its models to the "Glory Edition" in February, BYD's delivery data in March saw explosive growth: 302,459 new cars were sold, an increase of about 100,000 compared to 207,080 in the same period last year.Among them, BYD Dynasty and Ocean two series contributed the most, with a total sales of 286,712 vehicles, Tengshi car sales of 10,279 vehicles, look up to the car sales of 1,090 vehicles, equation leopard car sales of 3,550 vehicles. The above-mentioned car series worked together to help BYD become the world's first new energy car brand with cumulative sales of more than 7 million vehicles in March.
In terms of new forces in China's car-making, Huawei's brand, which cooperates with Sailis, continues to lead the way, delivering new cars in March of 170,000 units, with a cumulative delivery of 8in the first quarter 8.580,000 vehicles, followed closely by Ideal Cars, with a cumulative delivery in the first quarter of 8.04 million vehicles, exceeding the previously released expected data.
Tesla: suffered a capacity climb in the first quarter "only" delivered nearly 400,000 vehicles
Tesla, for its part, delivered 386,810 trams in the first quarter, but the number was still below market expectations. In the same period last year, Tesla's delivery figures were 422,875 vehicles.
In addition, of the nearly 390,000 trams delivered by Tesla, Model 3 / Y still accounts for the absolute majority, while Model S, Model X, Cybertruck and other models account for only about 1.70,000 vehicles.
In response to the decline in data, Tesla said that in the first quarter of this year, the production of the new version of the Model 3 at its Fremont, California plant was in the climbing phase, logistics disruptions due to the Red Sea conflict, and plant shutdowns caused by the Berlin superplant arson case, all of which affected production and deliveries.
Previously, the media had reported that the Red Sea conflict disrupted Tesla's parts supply, and in January this year, Tesla had suspended the production and manufacturing of the Berlin super factory. In March, environmentalists set fire to infrastructure near the Berlin superplant, causing Tesla to lose enough power to operate and suspend production again.
It is worth noting that Tesla's energy storage business is growing significantly in the first quarter.Tesla said in the announcement that it deployed 4,053 MWh of energy storage products in the first quarter, the highest quarterly deployment to date.
