In issuing the order, CONSOB took advantage of the powers conferred by the "Decreto crescita" (the "Growth Decree"; article 36, paragraph 2, of Law No. 58 of 28 June 2019).。Under the decree, CONSOB can order internet service providers to block access from Italy to financial services websites that are not properly authorised.。

Since July 2019, when Consob was empowered to order the blocking of websites of fraudulent financial intermediaries, the number of blocked websites has risen to 940.。

Internet service providers are blocking these sites。For technical reasons, it may take several days for the blockade to take effect.。

Consob draws the attention of investors to the fact that, in order to make informed investment choices, best efforts must be made to adopt common-sense behaviour, which is essential to protect their savings: these include, for websites offering financial services, checking in advance whether the operator in which they invest is authorized, and for websites offering financial products, checking whether they have published a prospectus。

To this end, Consob reminds investors that at www.consob.The homepage of the it website has a "Beware of scams!" section that provides useful information to alert investors to financial fraud.。
